From the Hoard of an Ancient Dragon

Some say these coins were minted by a forgotten empire that worshipped dragons as living gods.

Others believe they were created by dragons themselves, gifts exchanged between ancient wyrms long before humans built their first cities.

The truth has been lost.

Only the coins remain.

The Matte Black version feels like an artifact recovered from a cursed ruin or the treasury of a dark cult.

The gold variants evoke the image of immense dragon hoards hidden beneath mountains and guarded for centuries.

Dragon Coin – The Seal

Snow fell between the black fir trees, and the wind carried a sound from the mountains that was not entirely human.

Edrik pulled his fur cloak tighter around his neck.

“I’m telling you, we’re lost,” he growled.

“We are not lost,” replied the priestess Seratha without turning around. “We are exactly where we were meant to be.”

She had been saying that for three days.

Behind them trudged the other two members of the expedition—Bren the mercenary and a young thief named Tavin, who was beginning to regret every decision he had ever made.

The map they had bought in the harbor promised the ruins of an ancient fortress high in the Dragonspine Mountains.

And treasure within those ruins.

But the higher they climbed, the stranger the landscape became.

No animals.

No birds.

Only the wind.

And from time to time, stone pillars protruding from the snow, covered in strange symbols.

Tavin stopped beside one of them.

“These aren’t Northern runes.”

Seratha nodded.

“They’re older.”

“How old?”

The priestess was silent for a moment.

“So old that people had not yet learned how to pronounce the names of the gods correctly.”

That silenced Tavin.

By evening, they reached the ruins.

The fortress was half-buried in ice.

Its black walls rose from the cliffside like the ribs of a dead giant.

And beneath them yawned an open gate.

“Someone opened it,” Bren muttered.

“No,” said Seratha quietly.

“Something.”

Inside, it was warm.

Unnaturally warm.

Torches burned with blue flames, and the air smelled of iron.

Then they found the hall.

And in the center of the hall stood a stone chest.

Tavin laughed nervously.

“Well, finally. Something.”

He rushed forward and pushed aside the lid.

The laughter froze on his lips.

There were no gemstones inside.

Only coins.

Hundreds of them.

Black.

Heavy.

Each bearing a dragon.

And runes on the reverse.

Edrik picked one up.

An icy chill shot through his arm all the way to his shoulder.

“Don’t touch them!” Seratha shouted.

Too late.

The runes flared with a dark red glow.

LKRN.

The air in the hall trembled.

And somewhere deep beneath the mountain, a long, slow breath echoed through the stone.

Tavin turned pale.

“What was that?”

Seratha stared at the coin with an expression of pure horror.

“Lukarin.”

“Who?”

The priestess swallowed.

“The Witch of Merseburg.”

The sound came again.

Closer this time.

Like something enormous awakening from sleep.

Bren tightened his grip on his sword.

“I don’t like this.”

Seratha stepped back from the chest.

“These coins are not treasure.”

The red glow in the runes intensified.

“They are a seal.”

Then something moved beneath the stone floor.

And the entire hall slowly began to awaken.
